Just felt like posting the synopsis of our trip to north India during may 2011. The synopsis was written during that period. Here it goes…
Trip to north India, May 2011-
Thanks to Mr. Palekar, who actually had the plans to go to Mussoorie to meet Mr. Ruskin Bond and we joined in. Eventually, the trip extended beyond Mussoorie and we visited Shimla, the summer capital of british India & Nainital, the hill station with the lake. This was my first visit to any north Indian hill station.
We took off from Mumbai on the 13th of may and came back to Mumbai from Delhi before coming back home at Nashik on the 28th of may. Stays at Shogi, Chandigarh, Delhi and small halts at places like Kasauli, Taradevi, Kempty, Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradun added up to the experience.
Highlights of the tour were, meeting Mr. Ruskin Bond on his birthday,19th may in Mussoorie (he also signed a copy of one of his books for my daughter Dora (Shirlene), the view of cloud clapped snow clad peaks of the Himalayas (Trishul, comet, Nandaghunti, Mangtuli etc.) in Naintal, the walk from the mall to vice-regal lodge in Shimla, visit to the clean and planned city of Chandigarh, the evening aarti at Haridwar, the walk in Muni ki Reti (Rishikesh) with the Ganges flowing besides you and the view of Laxman Jhula in front, a taste of Mughal architecture in the form of Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi and of course the welcome break from normal work life.
One thing that’s worth mentioning here is the market places in all these hill stations. They, with their normal merchandise, somehow manages to attract every tourist (specially women and children) and almost all the shops are full with buyers and viewers all the time.
On our return, in Mumbai, we stayed for couple of days with Sumit & Bulbuli (Priyanka). The stay was pleasant and is worth mentioning.
